Two Wigan men were driving in the Lake District between Staveley and Windermere. They were attending a fishing trip and were not far from their destination.
At 2.30am, one of the men shouted, "What the hell was that?" they observed a large dull orange-coloured rotating sphere. They stopped the car to get a better look at the strange sight and noticed that the object was hovering silently about 100feet above the ground against the backdrop of the valley sides.
They described the sphere as having a diameter of 300 feet. Dark spots were visible over its surface. The phenomena moved slowly down the valley rotating as it moved out of sight before suddenly
vanishing.
