Whelley, Wigan

On Sunday, 14 January, at 9.45pm, Mr Dennis Porter decided to take his dog for a walk at Whelley near Wigan. He left home and slowly made his way along the Leeds-Liverpool canal in the direction of Red Rock. After walking for some time he reached a small bridge which crossed the canal and stopped for a rest and a cigarette. He had been standing there for a few minutes when he was suddenly hit by a massive blast of cold air, which was so powerful; it nearly knocked him off his feet.
As he looked to see where it had come from he saw a triangular object approximately thirty feet long pass silently over his head, then move off at a tremendous speed in the direction of Wigan town centre.
He described a perfect triangle with a rod-like protrusion glowing hot. He said that the body of the object was the colour of tarnished aluminium. He also said that the object must have been on the ground nearby and had just taken to the air as it came from nowhere.
He could offer no rational explanation for what he had witnessed.
