At 1.30 PM , a number of people in the Wigan area heard a very noisy helicopter overhead.
On rushing outside to look at the ‘copter, they found that it was a Chinook twin rotor machine flying extremely low that was following a small matt black triangular object-some 1/4 mile in front of it.
The Chinook was moving very slowly and was followed about 2 minutes later by a Jaguar fighter aircraft that passed overhead as low as the ‘copter- with -its undercarriage down! (A strange thing to do over such a densely populated area.)
The Jaguar aircraft followed the exact same course as the triangle and Chinook.
The witnesses stated that the only time they realised that something was overhead was when they heard the Chinook, the triangular object must have past silently overhead a few seconds earlier.
Fortunately, I was in the area at the time and also witnessed the sighting, from my position (Wigan town centre) it would appear that the triangle and the copter were heading in the direction of Bury/Rochdale. I didn’t manage to see the Jaguar fighter but I certainly heard it!
This sighting was verified later by a pilot of a light aircraft who reported the incident to UFO Magazine editors.
