Steve and Leanne

Steve was with his girlfriend Leanne driving towards the M6 motorway at Standish, Nr Wigan, They had decided to go to Blackpool for the day.
As they approached the roundabout at the motorway his girlfriend shouted out that an aircraft was flying very low and it looked as if it was going to crash. Steve stopped the car on the motorway bridge and they both got out to get a better view.

They described the aircraft as being very low, matt black in colour and triangular shaped. It appeared to be `hovering` in the vicinity of a lake near to Wrightington Hospital. It was ½ a mile from their position and they could hear no sound. (However, they put that down to the fact that the motorway traffic would have drowned out any noise from it)

Their initial fear that the aircraft was about to crash ended, as it then began to rise higher and turned away from them towards, Parbold Hill. They estimated its speed at first to be no more than 30 mph. It then banked to the right and accelerated away at what they both described as “breakneck speed” and totally beyond the speed of any aircraft they had seen before.

After a minute or two they got back in the car and proceeded on to their original destination. However, what they had seen continued to be the topic of conversation for the rest of the day and on reflection they decided that what they had witnessed must have been a UFO.

UPDATE

Speaking to Steve at a later date,  He added that the object was about 100ft in length and -when they first saw it- , it was about 200-300 ft above some trees that circled the lake.
He also said that the craft had no markings of any kind and was a perfect triangle.
