various part 2

Date: 10 August 1967. Time: 12:43am. Location: Liverpool Road, Hindley.

Incident: Police officers Lionel Haw and Steve Parsonage observed a large glowing object moving eastwards across the night sky. PS Haw described it "as glowing white big as an orange and very high. I would estimate its size as well over 100ft in diameter. We watched it moving across the sky for two minutes. It certainly was not a comet or weather balloon. I have seen these things and know what I’m talking about."

Date: July 1976. Time: Early Morning. Location: Lancaster Road, Hindley.
Incident: In the early hours of the morning on a very clear night, Mrs. A. being unable to sleep due to the heat wave affecting Britain at the time, stood at her bedroom window watching a star that seemed bigger and brighter than the rest.
Suddenly a beam of light shot out of the star and a bronze coloured saucer shaped object, as big as two houses, appeared and hovered above the houses across the road. As quickly as it appeared it vanished in a second beam of light, back towards the same star.
Date: February 1977. Time: 7pm. Location: Bickershaw Lane, Platt Bridge.
Incident: Mrs S. and her son (aged 7) were stood at the front door after waving farewell to her husband when she noticed a small bright star in the sky "As I’m stood at the door, the little dot came towards me and my son. It must have been travelling at tremendous speed. I was frightened and thought it would come straight at us and crash. It stopped over the top of the shop on the other side of the road. It was a very bright round object. Only way I can describe it is like the sun, but white shiny metal, very bright, and as wide as two cars. Then it went back in the sky to being a little dot across the sky. I could only follow it so far then it disappeared out of sight. I really thought it was going to crash (into us). I was really frightened."

Date: 23 November 1979. Time: 8-8.30pm. Location: Blackrod.

Incident: A dark arrowhead shaped object with lights behind was spotted on two separate occasions on the same night by Mr Peter Dootson, a local shop keeper.
The first incident took place near his home where he watched the object with its two bright lights moving very slowly across the sky. Half an hour later whilst returning from Tyldesley, he spotted the object again. This time it was perfectly stationary, 300ft overhead. Mr Dootson stopped the car to observe the object, which then started to move slowly away as he turned of his car lights. When Peter drove off, the object seemed to move back to its original position. Horwich police, who describe Mr Dootson as a "level headed sort of fellow", investigated the incident.
Unfortunately, they were unable to explain the event or identify the object.

Date: February 1981. Time: Evening. Location: Ince Cottages

Incident: A man sighted A large circular object over Ince Cottages. It appeared to increase in size and move diagonally towards Hindley just before disappearing.

Date: 27 August 1981. Time: Evening. Location: Billinge and Garswood.
Incident: Many reported sightings by residents in the Billinge and Garswood areas were made to local police, of a large conical shaped craft flying overhead.
The object circled the area for 45 minutes at a height of 1000ft and those who viewed it through binoculars said it had a number of lights on it. Mrs Parkin of Crookhurst Drive, said "it continually changed colour from red to blue. Through a pair of binoculars we could see it was revolving and appeared to be conical.
We’ve never seen anything like it before, it was very unusual. There was perhaps a couple of aircraft in the area but we could hear them and this object was soundless." Experts from the Civil Aviation Authority, Manchester Air-Traffic Control, Jodrell Bank and the Manchester Meteorological Department were unable to explain the sightings.
Date: 13 August 1982. Time: 9-10pm. Location: Abram

Incident: Brian Lydon of Langdale Crescent, Abram, spotted three UFOs on this night. The first was a small star shaped object that hovered in mid air above him and this was followed by a "Massive thing" that moved slowly towards the Plank Lane district of Leigh. The third object forced Mr Lydon to take cover beneath some trees, as it "hurtled towards " him at great speed. It seemed to originate from Winter Hill.

Date: 17 August 1982. Time: Evening. Location: Pemberton, Wigan.

Incident: A group of women encountered an `alien` visitor after hearing a terrible noise (A noise the women described as never wishing to hear again). The creature stepped from behind a garage and had the following description. "It was totally enclosed in a one piece suit with no joins in it. It had a solid goldfish type bowl over its head. It had a small rectangular piece of glass for a visor and a tapering tube from the front of the bowl down to a box on its chest." The creature moved "Awkwardly" and whilst one arm held onto the box under its chest the other stuck out at 45 degrees to the body. The women also reported seeing later on the same evening a craft.

Date: 19 November 1986. Time: 6am. Location: Ashton-in- Makerfield
Incident: A man on his way to work encountered a pumpkin shaped craft. The craft had a big recess down the centre and four lights; two white and one each of red and green. Three large windows were visible, through which could be seen five Mediterranean looking beings. They seemed human quite tall with long black hair and they wore tight fitting black trousers and burnt orange coloured tops. The craft was brilliant white in colour and made up of a complex array of segments, each one containing nine indentations like those found on a golf ball. The light inside the craft came from the walls, rather than the ceiling and was of a soft brown colour.

Date: February 1995. Time: Night. Location: Wigan.

"About a year ago I woke in the night and noticed flashing lights. I thought it was an ambulance or fire brigade, so I got out of bed and looked through the window. To my astonishment I saw about 12 coloured lights in a diamond pattern in the sky. Each light was spinning rapidly and pulsating. Suddenly the lights got nearer to my house and I got scared so I quickly shut the curtains and got back into bed. My first thoughts about an ambulance or fire brigade were quashed, I didn’t know what it was and eventually I must have dozed off.
"Later in the night I woke up to find a being stood at the bottom of my bed, I couldn’t scream but I tried to get away. It was about 4ft tall and glowing brilliant white. Its eyes were massive oval shaped and the brightest blue Id ever seen. Then it smiled at me, to my amazement its teeth were yellow. I tried so hard to get away from it and out of the room but I couldn’t move. I knew I wasn’t dreaming I was scared stiff.
"The next thing I remember it was morning. I sat up in bed and felt unwell, sort of drugged and sluggish. So I went into the bathroom, looked in the mirror and got the shock of my life. I had bruises on both temples and my right eye. I also had three penny sized spots on my stomach, I went to mums room and showed her and explained what had happened.
"Within 2 hours the bruising went. I went to the doctors and he gave me cream to put on the spots and told me I was allergic to cats. I told him I didn’t have a cat. He insisted that I must have held one but I hadn’t. I couldn’t tell the doctor what had happened in case he laughed at me and said it was a nightmare.
"The cream did remove the spots but if I never see my little boy again I know what I saw and it was no dream. The following day I noticed a hole in my curtains; it was 6"x6". Before I witnessed what I saw there was no hole in those curtains."
Date: 19 September 1995. Time: Evening. Location: Golborne & Culcheth
Incident: A large, slow moving, noiseless object with a single pulsating red light was spotted by several witnesses. According to one eyewitness "it seemed to be dark brown in colour and had a funny faint glow about it. It could easily have been some big army aircraft but there was something about the way it moved that seemed odd. I’m not convinced that it was an alien craft; probably a plane of some sort – but not any sort I’ve seen before in my life"

Date: 17 November 1995. Time: early Evening. Location: Gathurst
Incident: Five very bright lights were seen in the sky above the ICI plant at Gathurst. The mix of red and white lights moved back and forth for several minutes before shooting up into the sky and exploding.
Date: 17 November 1995. Time: Early evening. Location: Gathurst
Incident:. "On my way home from work, I noticed a curious sight. Looking over from Wigan Lane in the direction of Whelley/Scholes. I saw six objects moving in the sky. After a couple of minutes this was reduced to five. Two of the remaining five could have been helicopters but the remaining three – I could not say what they were. All five were travelling in a slow circular sweeping motion and one of the three closely followed the two larger objects. I watched these for fifteen minutes.

Date: September 1994. Time: 11pm. Location: Standish LG.
Incident: Mrs Lorrimer sighted A cigar shaped UFO, over Standish lower ground. "I was up in the loft", notes Mrs Lorrimer, "where there is a large window that over looks farm land. It was very dark. I was looking out of the window when I noticed a cigar like shape that went from side to side hovering over the fields. The shape also had a beam of light coming from it. I watched it for about twenty minutes before it went out of sight.
"Whilst the thing was flying over, the horses in the field were really noisy, I don’t know if it had anything to do with it, but half an hour later the police were out and about."
Date: 23 January 1995. Time: 8pm. Location: The Park, Manchester road, Higher Ince.
Incident: Several witnesses saw a UFO soaring towards the ground and apparently land in Ince Park. The initial sighting was reported to police by a taxi driver from Freeways taxis, who described the object as an orange object "flame about the size of a football". The police were quick to respond but on arrival at the sight no debris could be found. A police spoke person said; "there was absolutely nothing to suggest that a plane had crashed in the area. Following procedures we contacted Air Traffic Control to see if they could throw any light on the matter but they knew as little as we did, it will probably remain a mystery.
The taxi driver though, was not the only witness that night. A paper-lad Sebastian Willerton and his friend Anthony Bayliss also saw the luminous object. "At first I thought it was someone mucking about with fireworks," Sebastian told Jon Peake of the Wigan Reporter, "but I realised it wasn’t and saw it looked like a plane that had crashed." Jon Peake also uncovered another witness who recalled, "It was close to eight o’clock and I was walking up Manchester Road, not paying much attention as it was very cold and I was well wrapped up. I couldn’t help noticing though, something not so far in the distance dropping out of the sky. It looked very much like a light aircraft and it went down in the vicinity of the park. Something I found a little odd at the time, before the object crashed (if it did crash), it seemed to pause above the ground for a split second. It was only a split second and I can offer no explanation as to why this might have happened if it was an aircraft."
…… Apparently on the night in question Bill Eatock, the Quest International local investigator, had noticed an unusual triangular shaped UFO over the main Wigan to Manchester road area although he saw nothing of the crash.
Following up on the Reporters story he discovered on visiting the park that a number of trees had been cut down, several circular holes had been freshly cored out the nearby grass and that there were dead fish floating in the park lake.
On questioning local residents, he discovered that there had been a lot of activity in the park on that night and when the locals went to investigate they found one area of the park cordoned off protected by men in light-coloured coveralls. When the residents questioned the men in the coveralls, they were told by persons claiming to be from the MoD, to leave the area.
Did a plane crash or did a UFO land near Wigan in late January 1995? It has all the hallmarks of Wigan’s answer to Roswell and the story will probably grow before we find the answer.

Incident: A woman, from Standish, spotted two large objects, surrounded by flashing lights. The sighting took place one morning as she looked out of her bedroom window. The objects were low in the sky and completely silent. After watching them for a short while the objects flew off in the direction of Winter hill. A few minutes later the same woman heard helicopters outside – they seemed to be looking for the two objects.

Date: 31 January 1995. Time: 5am. Location: Worsley Green
Incident: Mr Cyril Wilde, whilst gazing out of his bedroom window one morning, saw what he described as a large square shaped craft with six rows of six lights across each side. It appeared to hover there. It stayed stationary for quite a while before starting to move slowly away. A short while later it was joined by another object that travelled slowly towards the first, before moving off together. The whole episode lasted for over an hour.

Date: March 1995. Time: 11pm. Location: Standish.
Incident: A huge flying saucer was seen by a man from Standish. The witness noticed the craft when he was exercising his dog late one evening. "The craft was described as "A massive saucer shaped object which was glittering between the trees. There were big lights encircling it." He went on to say, "I’ve never seen anything as big in my life." after watching the spectacle for two or three minutes, he noticed the sound of powerful turbine engines, which suddenly stopped and the craft began to move silently and slowly away to the side.

Date: 16 April 1995. Time: Approx. 2am. Location: Parbold.
Incident: Five women returning from a night out in Southport were "buzzed" by a UFO. Whilst travelling along a duel carriageway close to Parbold they spotted a bright light behind some trees in a field. As they drove closer they saw the light was a craft hovering in the centre of the field. It was translucent and described as having amazing lights coming from it and was comparable in size to the roof of a house. Then a frightening thing happened; the craft took up a position adjacent to the car and began to shadow their journey home. It held position for over three minutes being at its closest only yards away, before shooting off into the night sky.
